ROHM Microstep Motor Drivers Deliver High Performance and Reliability

ROHM Microstep Motor Drivers Deliver High Performance and Reliability SAN DIEGO, Calif. – June 28, 2010 – The new high-performance, high-reliability stepper motor drivers from ROHM Semiconductor offer selectable excitation modes—full-step to sixteenth-step with 1.0A or 2.0A output current and full-step to eighth-step with 2.5A output current. These microstep drivers enable designers to optimize motor torque, noise and vibration for a wide range of applications. Selectable current decay pattern (FAST/SLOW/MIXED decay modes) further enhances motor performance. Circuit design is simplified through a combination of features including an internal voltage regulator, control input translator and DMOS output. The built-in regulator permits operation from a single 36V (max.) supply. Instead of parallel control lines, a single clock (CLK) input is converted by the device's internal translator into motor drive signals. Additionally, ROHM's advanced DMOS (Pch + Nch) output topology eliminates the need for external charge pump components.

ROHM ECOMOS Efficiently Handles Reduced Supply Voltages in Portables

ROHM Announces CMOS LDO Regulators with Automatic Power-Saving FunctionSAN DIEGO, Calif. – December 8, 2009 –The new ECOMOS series of n-channel and
p-channel MOSFETs from ROHM Semiconductor are designed to meet the prescribed  operation at lower gate drive voltages that emerging generations of portable electronic devices require. ROHM’s advanced proprietary processing has produced devices that exhibit RDS(ON) values as much as 90% lower than comparable devices when operated at ultra-low 1.5 V or 1.2 V gate drive (VGS) voltages. This improved electrical performance combined with ROHM’s unique packaging design provides both high-efficiency, excellent power dissipation and small device footprint.

The new ECOMOS 1.5 V products are offered in three package sizes depending on maximum power dissipation (PD) in configurations that include single p-channel or n-channel devices (with or without Schottky barrier diode) and complex, multi-die dual p-channel or n-channel devices. The three package sizes with salient specifications* are:

  • WEMT6 :   1.8x1.6x0.8 mm (1613), PD(MAX) = 0.8 W,
  • TSST8:      3.0x1.9x0.8 mm (3016), PD(MAX) = 1.25 W
  • TSMT8:     3.0x2.8x0.8 mm (3024), PD(MAX) = 1.5 W

(*see specifications and a compete list of available packages)

ROHM Announces CMOS LDO Regulators with Automatic Power-Saving Function

ROHM Announces CMOS LDO Regulators with Automatic Power-Saving Function

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - August 21, 2009 - ROHM Semiconductor has introduced a new series of CMOS LDO regulators featuring ROHM's proprietary automatic power-saving (APS) function that dynamically switches performance characteristics based on operating conditions. The BHxxPB1 Series combines the benefits of LDOs - small packaging, minimal external components and simple design process - with very low average power consumption. During high-speed operation, with operating current of 20 µA, the output voltage is regulated to ±1% over step load changes. In the power-save mode, the operating current is reduced to 2 µA. These devices are particularly useful in portable applications such as cell phones where lower average current consumption can aid in extending battery life.

ROHM Announces Ambient Light Sensor ICs for LCD Display Backlighting

H-Bridge Drivers

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – March 31, 2009 – ROHM Semiconductor today announces a new family of analog and digital Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) ICs for the efficient control of LED backlighting for LCD-equipped devices. Featuring ROHM’s proprietary trimming process and use of multiple photodiodes with different junction depths, the ALS ICs provide an accurate output with little variation between various light sources. The spectral response of ROHM ALS ICs has been tailored to closely match that of the human eye for accurate light measurement. These features combine to provide uniform visibility for LCDs over a wide range of ambient light levels and sources – from incandescent or fluorescent light to full sunlight.
